This important ongoing initiative is being launched by a university-community partnership team with the leadership of faculty and staff in Outreach and International Affairs and our Service-Learning Center.

We are joining the university on Blacksburg’s main campus and the Richmond community in launching VT Engage. This is a chance for students, staff, faculty and the community to remember the victims of April 16th while also committing to serving in our community in the next year and beyond.

VT Engage is an outgrowth of what we have learned, what we can do – what we collectively can continue to do to create positive change in our world. Virginia Tech has a goal of pledging and performing collectively 300,000 hours of service in the spirit of our university motto—Ut Prosim—That I may serve. Our VT alumni have also pledged to meet this challenge by pledging and performing an additional 300,000 hours.

VT Engage is an opportunity, and it is an individual choice. Through VT Engage, we can acknowledge the scores of students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general community who engage in philanthropic activities as regular parts of their lives. Through action, Virginia Tech can demonstrate its commitment to be a 21st century university, focused on social responsibility and justice. One of the ways to do that is through VT Engage.
